Residents are encouraged to sign up for alerts using the Macon County Emergency Management System. Not only will you be able to receive weather alerts but the Village is going to begin using this system for boil orders; road closures; event reminders, etc. If you already receive alerts, you can simply update your preferences.
If you need to register, go to https://member.everbridge.net/indes/453003085611879 or Macon Co EMA http://www.maconcountyema.org/ or http://www.co.macon.il.us/
Are you looking for ways to become involved or more involved in your Village?
The Fire Department is always looking for volunteers. Contact any member of the department for information or stop by the firehouse any Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Zoning Board of Appeals
Members are needed for the Zoning Board. This is an important part of Village government but fortunately or unfortunately, isn’t needed on a regular basis. This board only meets when zoning needs to be changed within the Village limits.
Village Board of Trustees
One of the best ways to be involved in what is happening in the Village is to attend a Board of Trustees meeting. Meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Mondays beginning at 5:30 p.m. This board handles all the various operations of the Village including but not limited to: Water; Sewer; Streets and Sidewalks; Police Protection; Village Code; Village Finances; and just the day-to-day operations of the Village. Residents are always welcome to attend these meetings to learn the workings of the Village and voice any concerns they may have.
Another way to get involved in the Village is to participate in “Coffee with the Mayor”. Mayor Riley has held several monthly gatherings since being elected as the Village President/Mayor and would like for this to continue. It is not only a way for him to get to know the residents of the Village but it also gives the residents a chance to get to know him; bring their ideas and suggestions to him on a more informal setting and also bring any concerns or issues they may have. Watch for an upcoming date on a Saturday in March.
Want to Support the Corn Festival??
One of the best ways to support the Corn Festival (July 21 – 23) is to volunteer your time either on the committee or during the event.
But if that’s not possible, you can also become a Festival Friend! Your generous contribution of $10 or more will help ensure another A-MAIZ-ING event to benefit the entire community. If you would like to contribute, there is a form included on the newsletter which is mailed with the water/sewer bill or you can simply drop your contribution by the Village Hall.
