AUGUST 2022

We are afraid there isn’t too much news to report for August, 2022.
The 2022 Corn Festival is in the books and attendance was good considering the warm weather.
Thursday night started the events with the Corn Shucking contest followed by a great concert with Sanctus Real.
Friday featured WAND-TV broadcasting 3 of their news programs live from the festival. The evening kicked off with entertainment on the Midwest Siding Main Stage by Earth 2 Mars and on the Assured Insulation stage by the Red Wheelbarrows.
Saturday was a full day starting with a 5K run, with approximately 60 participants and a children’s dash followed by the Something Corny parade. Congratulations to the W-L Cheerleaders in winning 1st place in the parade judging.
The kiddie tractor pull took center stage and congratulations to the winners:
Evylynn Maddox in the lightweight division
Wyatt Mathias in the middleweight division
Barrett Timmons in the heavyweight division.
This was followed by the 1st Adorable Baby contest. While we don’t have the individual winners, by looking at the pictures, they would all be winners!!
Capitol City Cornhole organized the cornhole tournament with 31 teams competing. Vinnie Barbee had a successful car show with 62 cars entered & included a light show at dusk.
8 teams competed in the whiffle ball tournament held over the 3 days along with a home run derby, which was won by Nathan Southern. Thank you to W-L FFA for helping make the “field of dreams” for the outfield fence.
DJ David Lee was providing karaoke entertainment at the Assured Insulation stage Saturday evening while The Boat Drunks took the main stage and helped successfully close out this years’ festival.
This event is all paid for by sponsors, festival friends and supporters. All the labor provided by volunteers is crucial to keeping the event moving forward. Please be sure to thank them for the time and monetary support. This allows the festival to run on its own without asking the Village of Warrensburg for assistance with the event expenses.
