Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2023 from the Village President, Board of Trustees and employees of the Village of Warrensburg.
The Village Hall and Public Works Department will be closed December 24 – 26 for Christmas and January 1 & 2 for New Year’s.
The “One Tree – Many Branches” tree lighting ceremony held on December 3, 2022 was a successful event. Approximately 75 persons participated in hanging an ornament on the tree, enjoyed some cookies and hot cocoa, listened to the WLHS Chorus sing a few carols for those in attendance and helped celebrate the lighting of the tree at 7:00 p.m. Special thanks to the 2 families who approached Mayor Riley with this idea last year but it was too late to pull it together. The timing was great this year and despite being a little chilly, the weather cooperated.
If you would still like to put a special ornament on the tree, please feel free to do so. There are small zip/cable ties in the Village Hall to secure your ornament to the tree.
As Mayor Riley mentioned in his remarks, we are a small but mighty community (One Tree) and we have many different and diverse families that reside in this community (Many Branches). We hope this becomes an annual tradition for the Village of Warrensburg.
Speaking of Christmas Lights, the Village of Warrensburg is continuing with its Christmas Lighting Contest this year. It may be a little different as everyone who has their home decorated will be considered “entered” into the contest. You can still contact the Village Hall to make sure your home is on the list but the judges will be looking at all the displays. The get-together to announce the awards will be on Tuesday, December 20 at 6:00 at the Illini Park Building. There will be light refreshments and we’ve been told Santa himself should be in attendance. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3, including up to $80 towards their January water/sewer bill for first place.
The 7th Annual Corn Festival in 2023 will be here before we know it. It will be held July 20 – 22. Plans have already begun but it’s not too late to become involved. Persons are always welcome to help with the organization of the event and the next meeting for that will be Wednesday, January 11 at 6:00 pm at the Village Hall. A couple of fund raising events are already in the works and the committee would love for you to be a part of those.
You can also be a Festival Friend or Sponsor. Festival Friend information can be found in each monthly newsletter mailing and a new Sponsorship form is being updated and should be ready soon. No contribution will be turned away!
