January 2023

The Village Hall and Public Works will be closed Monday, January 2 in observance of New Year’s Day and on Monday, January 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Congratulations to the winners of the Christmas Lighting Contest. They were:
3rd place – 255 S Durfee
2nd place – 765 E North St
1st place – 385 W Henson
Thank you to all the residents who took the time to decorate their homes this Christmas season. Each one was special and added so much to the festivities of this holiday season.

ONE TREE – MANY BRANCHES! Our 1st year of a Community Christmas Tree was a huge success and plans are already in the works for the 2023 Tree Lighting. Many thanks to all who assisted and especially those who came to participate that evening. After the tree is taken down, the ornaments will be in the Village Hall until January 13, if you want to pick yours back up. After that date, they will be boxed and put away for 2023.

There are 3 Village Trustee positions open for election this year. Each will be for a 4-year term. If you are interested, please stop by the Village Hall at your earliest convenience to pick up the required paperwork. The Statement of Candidacy & Petition would need to be returned to the Village Clerk by January 25, 2023 in order to be placed on the ballot.

Coffee with the Mayor!
Saturday, January 28th from 8:30 am – 10:00 am. Feel free to stop by the DaBurg and share your thoughts and ideas with Mayor Riley. Everyone is welcome!

Register now for the University of Illinois 4-H Cooking Club classes to be held in Warrensburg.

Donations are still being accepted for the Lourash children at Buena Vista National Bank, 121 Coffee Run, Casey’s, Warrensburg Cafe and the Village Hall. These funds are being used for the immediate & long term needs of this family.
Many have asked where the children are and they are living with their maternal grandparents near Blue Mound. It is their plan to complete the school year at W-L, so additional fuel costs are being incurred. The grandparents are also needing to add a storage shed to their property in order to keep some of the childrens’ possessions as well as purchase a pen for their 2 German Shepherds.
The funds in the established account can be used at the discretion of the grandparents but in order to be transparent, we felt you should know some of their immediate needs.

The next meeting for the Warrensburg Corn Festival will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 6:00 pm at the Village Hall. Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring any new ideas to make this festival a continued success.
The Festival is already receiving financial support and you too can support the festival with your monetary gifts. There are many levels of giving beginning with becoming a “Festival Friend”. Information is included in the Village News along with a form you can complete. If you are interested in sponsoring an event or making a larger contribution, you can visit the Festival website (warrensburgcornfestival.com) and go to the sponsor page or check out the Festivals Facebook page.
